Before tapping your new keg double check a few things first

  • Is your kegerator temperature between 36-38℉?

  • Is your keg still cooled between 36-38℉? Kegs may warm slightly in travel and will need to sit in the kegerator until they reach the appropriate temperature.

  • Are the draft lines refrigerated all of the way to the faucets? Kegerator’s with tower-style faucets may feature cooling fans, check that these are functioning.

  • Is the CO2 tank full enough to meet pressure demands?

  • Is the CO2 pressure regulator set between 11-12psi? Do you know how to adjust this pressure?

  • Have you cleaned the lines in your Kegerator in the past two weeks, or ever? Cleaning the lines every two weeks or in-between beers, whichever is more frequent, will ensure the quality of the beer will not be compromised by dirty lines!

  • Are there any leaks in CO2 lines? An effective way to look for leaks is to spray the CO2 lines with a soapy water solution and chase down the bubbles.

  • Are there any kinks in the CO2 or Beer tubing? This can cause foaming if the lines are pinched or kinked.

After checking through the list above, it’s time to attach the keg by following the steps below

  • Attach the keg to the coupler inside of your kegerator.

  • Look for any liquid leaking from the coupler or at the faucet.

  • Begin pouring your pint. This may take some practice.

  • NEVER forget to shut off your CO2 at the end of each use! Prolonged exposure to CO2 can cause the beer to over carbonate and cause lots of frustration later.
